After one year in TN we moved to Fort Ord California for a few months and then down to the Panama Canal Zone.
There we lived for four years at Guilick Heights and Franz Field in a housing area literally cut right out of the jungle.
After Panama we moved to Ratcliff and then Fort Knox Kentucky for two years.
Our housing unit was literally on the edge of a dense woods and I spent much of my time catching turtles and frogs and repeating First Grade.
Having spent something like 16 years or more living in California, I used to consider it my "home": I've lived in Los Angeles (Venice, Marina del Rey, Pacific Palisades, West Hollywood & Santa Monica), Monterey County (Monterey, New Monterey, Seaside, Pacific Grove, Marina and Fort Ord.
'El California,' as I refer to it now, is lost to America. It is a totally bizarre, racist, ageist White-Hating hub of violence and crime.
But I will always remember the beautiful beaches, verdant woods, and a once-loving population.
Build the Wall - AROUND CALIFORNIA!
We first lived in the heart of Madrid at the Tore de Madrid which was, at the time, the tallest building in Europe (so we were told). For two months our next door neighbor on the 16th floor was the incredibly beautiful Sophia Loren, whom we saw often (I was at the time).
We then moved to Royal Oaks, military housing seven miles outside Madrid.
After a year in Spain my mother and father had a temporary separation. She being from Wales, decided to take us all (six kids) to England to live (without our father).
There we lived in Worthing, down near the sea. I took my Eleven Plus there, even though I was ten. This was a nation wide exam (since done away with) that everyone took and which determined whether you might, in your foreseeable future, either scrub toilets or scrub patients.) I hope to return one day and take it again (now that i'm better prepared).
After a year in England we moved back to Spain for a year and then to California to six years and then, in my 11th year of high school we moved to Fort Richardson, Alaska where I went attended 11th grade at Diamond High School.
